When is the Recreational Water Health Advisories map updated?

The Recreational Water Health Advisories map is maintained and updated as public health risk notifications are issued or lifted. The Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) will issue a recreational water cyanoHAB health advisory, health alert, or health watch for a cyanobacterial harmful algal bloom when an active bloom has been identified. For more information on cyanoHAB risk levels, read the  Idaho CyanoHAB Risk Level Summary . More information can be found in the  Idaho Cyanobacteria Recreational Waters Response Plan.  Beach closures typically occur when the fecal bacteria E. coli exceeds a safe level for recreating in the water or there is an outbreak of the gastrointestinal virus (norovirus) at the beach. A warning for swimmer's itch may be posted when cases are reported after being in the water and snails, birds, and vegetation in shallow water are found. Fish consumption advisories are issued when contaminant levels are unsafe.

Use the contact us  form (Report a potential bloom ) on the DEQ website,Email algae@deq.idaho.gov with a description of the potential bloom. Please include the water body's name, the location of the bloom, and attach photographs.Call the HABs Hotline at (866) 671-5385.
