The Idaho Lead Risk map is calculated from a percentage of the population under eighteen years of age with household income level below poverty and percentage of homes built before 1978 per census track. Census tracks are ranked from a 0 (lowest risk) – 10 (highest risk). The map utilizes data based on homes built before 1978 and does not account for homes where lead-based paint has been removed. Two risk factors for lead exposure in children are living in low-income households or living in homes built before 1978. The risk of exposure to lead-based paint increases with the age of the home. In Idaho, about one-quarter of the homes were built before 1950.

Level 1 is the lowest risk and level 10 is the greatest risk to lead exposure.Risk level is based on two factors: the Deteriorated Paint Index (DPI) and 2023 poverty estimates for each census tract. These two factors are weighted equally. Results show how each census tract compares to others in Idaho for the risk of lead exposure.Layers can be turned on or off to show additional lead sources within Idaho.Do not use this map to diagnose a community health issue or label a community. This map is a tool to help determine risk level only.
